EFFECT OF Cr,Cu AND Co ON MAGNETOSTRICTION OF Fe-Si-B AMORPHOUS ALLOYS

The dependence of composition varied,especially C,Si,Cr,Cu and Co in four amorphous alloy systems Fe_(80-x)Cr_xSi_5B_(15).Fe_(80-x)Cr_xC_5B_(15).Fe_(80-x)Cu_xSi_5B_(15)and (Fe_(1-x)Co_x)_(82)Cu_(0.4)Si_(4.4)B_(13.2)upon their saturation magnetostriction at room temperature has been studied.It was observed that the saturation magnetostriction of the alloys may be re- markably improved by small addition of Cu and Co.the peak value being up to 70×10~(-6)as x=0.02 in alloys(Fe_(1-x)Co_x)_(82)Cu_(0.4)Si_(4.4)B_(13.2).

Transformations and Two Way Memory Effect Associated with Solution-treatment Temperature

Effect of solution treatment temperature on transformations and two way memory, effect in a Ti- 55.2 wt-%Ni alloy was investigated. The results show that with increasing the solution treatment temperature (T_s), two way memory effect (TWME) decreases continuously and temperatures of martensite and reverse, martensite transformations (MR) rise, but the temperature of R start trans- formation (parent→R) does not change. The results of the internal friction measurements indicate that when T_s=1073 K, internal friction peaks of MR and P→R transformations are larger than those of the specimens after solution-treatments at 973 and 1173 K. With increasing T_s, the de- crease of TWME can be attributed to that the defect stress field caused by the rolling fades out grad- ually and preferential martensite variants, which fit into the defect stress field, decrease. The changes of transformation temperatures and internal friction peaks with T_s are closely related to the change of defect numbers.

Controversy about the Origin of the Grain Boundary Internal Friction Peak and Its Clarification

In the seventies some scientific workers from France and ltaly suggested that the grain boundary internal friction peak (named the Ke peak in the literature) widely accepted as a grain bound ary process, is originated from the motion of lattice dislocations. Since this problem is one of fundamental importance, this controversy has drawn much international attention. Started from 1982, the Hefei research group made a critical analysis of the large amount of literature concerning this problem and performed a series of crucial experiments to clarify the controversy It is concluded that the irrelevant evidence suggested by the controverters comes from the farfetched interpretation and the mis-identification of the internal friction peaks appeared under various experimental conditions and different states of the specimens.
